Werewolf Destiny Page 11
She was banging her head, yelling eloquently.
- You have dispelled many of my doubts - she forced herself to smile gently. - Without this, I wouldn't sleep a wink. Good night and remember that I hate you.
- I will remember - the boy laughed and left, finally letting the girl rest.
Now, he was calm that he wouldn't have to chase after her in the middle of the night if he decided to stay with the wadaha. He wrote to the alphabet that he did not have to worry about anything and also went to bed. Before bedtime, he loosened the guards by the house, sending some delta to the families and sending the rest on patrol along the borders. Vampires were becoming more and more bold, so they had to watch out.
But Amanda was singing a song of joy in her mind and when she saw Verber leave the garage in a jeep, she threw the backpack over her shoulder and almost ran off on the metal grating, ignoring the spiders running under her toes.
She was limping, looking around vigilantly, and when Gina opened the back door, pretending to pack something there, she jumped in without warning.
The wolf girl closed the back with a calm motion, earlier she threw her travel bag there and winked to the Hale cake lined in her legs. She sat behind the wheel and started the engine, giving it a moment to warm up. Being sure she didn't forget anything, she threw in the one and after a while she was free to change gears, speeding up on the wet road from the rain.
- I'll tell you when you can sit down - she spoke, including the wipers.
The rain slowly turned into an unpleasant downpour.
- What if Withell finds out that the fire was just an invention? - She preferred not to even imagine it.
- Calmly, she won't find out - Gina threw a thick blanket back, completely hiding the presence of the girl in the car. - Cullen really set fire to the archive, but no one will ever find out about it. The electrical wires in the basement were pretty badly damaged before you showed up, and he only helped to do what was inevitable. If the inspection was done regularly and not every twenty years, such an accident could have been avoided...
- And the documents? - Amanda was sorry that this led to irreversible losses in her students' valuable work.
- Cullen would never damage these unique ones, you don't have to worry unnecessarily - Gina giggles. - We are approaching the border.
The wolves watched the approaching car closely, but when they saw a familiar silhouette in it, they only greeted it with a single mute.
The woman waited a dozen or so kilometers before letting the girl get out of the bottom of the seats and straighten her back.
- I hope it works - she smiled at it in the mirror, but the brunette did not doubt for a moment that it will work.
Chapter XIV
Only a few street lanterns were on fire when Amanda rushed out of Gina's jeep and ran into the tenement house, blindfolded by the pockets in search of the key to the apartment.
Without any difficulty, she found her way into the castle and silently entered it, not turning on any light, but supporting herself with a mediocre flashlight in a worn out cell phone.
On the table in the kitchen there were still some memorable Dagmara cookies, dried to stone for sure, but Hale was sorry to throw them away. They were a symbol of abandonment of the old life against your will.
- Where was the bag... - She whispered frantically, finally reminding herself that she kept it in a closet in the hallway.
She had only one hour before departure, and Gina gave her a maximum of a quarter of an hour, squeezing herself into one of the side streets so that she wouldn't accidentally run into Withell, which they could bring all the way to the former home of the destined one.
- A blouse, T-shirts, pants, underwear and a beautician from the bathroom - she repeated under her nose, immediately packing the exchanged items into a suitcase.
She still took her laptop, charger and batteries, which she did not know the purpose of, but lay in the same drawer. She had her wallet and all the documents provided by her alpha helpers right after the abduction, so making sure she didn't forget anything, she turned off the flashlight and went back to the hallway in the dark.
- Enough - she went out into the cool corridor, throwing her grabbed jacket on her shoulders on the run and turning the maroon scarf around her slim neck.
She closed the apartment thoroughly, climbing the stairs at a dizzying pace and loading into Gina's car.
- You even did it quickly," the wolfberry praised her. - You still have forty minutes.
- I will be relieved only in the plane - the brunette closed her eyes, leaning her head against the headrest. - Can I borrow a blanket?
- Take it easy - she encouraged her with a smile. - She encouraged her with a smile. She will be more useful to you.
The airport was not particularly far from Amanda's house, so the journey took only a moment. Wilczyca parked in a free parking lot, among other things, and both of them got into a glazed modern building.
- I'll walk you out - the girl wasn't going to refuse company, especially as she was shaking more and more and it wasn't caused by the low temperature outside. - Do you have a ticket?
- I bought it online, as you advised - Hale stopped at the briefing, squeezing Verber goodbye. - Thank you very much, for everything you have done for me.
Gina waved her luna, not believing that after so many years of waiting for this one vile alpha, she simply helped her escape.
- Life writes different scenarios... - She whispered, letting her friend get on the last plane, flying to London today.
Even if Withell goes into pursuit, he will have to wait several more hours.
She thought, looking through the glazed walls, as the plane ascended and then made smaller and smaller, disappearing behind the clouds before her distressed gaze.
- Good luck, Hale - she sighed, coming back to the car, where she intended to forget about the whole event.
Sooner or later Withell will realize that she had her fingers in it and, given the way he treated the linen, will show no mercy to the woman.
Meanwhile on the plane Amanda thanked the nice stewardess for her help and put her head more comfortably on the backrest, closing her tired eyelids and letting herself go for those eleven hours of flight. According to the plan, it was not until 12 noon in London.
She woke up only when they were descending to the flight, unable to believe it. As soon as the machine landed, she was relieved to leave her seat, wanting to pick up her luggage and run straight to her home town, where she couldn't stay for long. She did not want to involve her parents, whom she loved above all else.
She was in her mind, grabbed her suitcase on the way, bought something to eat and left the building, breathing the London air. She hung up one of the free cab drivers and asked him to take it to the outskirts of town.
A nice old man told her about the local sights and it was sad to make him realize that she knew these stories perfectly well, so she listened politely, from time to time admiring a little more, as befits a typical tourist. The driver drove her to the very door of the house, for which she thanked him very much and gave a large tip, not wanting to be rude. She waited for the grandfather to leave and rang the doorbell.
- Amanda? - A woman with blonde hair and big glasses on her nose was staring in disbelief at a girl standing on the porch. - I do not believe it! Get in, baby!
- Hi, Mom - she greeted shyly when she came inside. - How are you doing?
- Bernard! Come quickly! Amanda has arrived! - She was screaming at the house, completely disobeying her daughter.
The grey head of the father looked out of the kitchen, whose cloudy face was immediately brightened by a wide smile.
- I can't believe you fell in like this without warning! - he joined his excited wife. - Why did you call us? I would have gone to the airport for you!
- I wanted to surprise you - she finally managed to explain. - Besides, I really wanted to get to my grandmother.
Mr. Bernard wrinkled his forehead,
but Alicia was even more squeamish.
- That's great, because we were supposed to go to her tomorrow, but if you care so much, we can still go today - she assured, forcing her daughter to sit down to the table and push a few pancakes into her.
- What's your problem with Greta? - My father sat next to Amanda, drinking lazy coffee.
The brunette was desperately trying to find an explanation that would not sound at all suspicious.
- I got a wonderful job in Los Angeles, but the archive where I worked... It burned down - she suffocated without looking at Bernard. - It was very difficult for me after all this, so I decided to live with my grandmother for a while and regenerate.
Po tym wyznaniu w domu nastąpiła prawdziwa wrzawa. Przerażona Alice krzyczała cały czas, że Ameryka nigdy nic dobrego jeszcze nikomu nie przyniosła, a Bernard comforted his daughter every step of the way and told her that her grandmother would take good care of her and that the whole of Los Angeles would be out of her mind once and for all. They packed up Amanda efficiently and left for Castle Combe without any delay.

- Greta! You're doing well, old woman! - Alice hugged her mother, who didn't look eighty.
Her hair was short, golden blonde, and her eyes were vivid green with curiosity staring at her granddaughter, who together with the bag stood a bit on the side.
- Amanda, darling! - She squeezed herself between the girl's parents and almost crushed her in a strong embrace. - Maybe you would like to stay with your old grandmother for longer? The Campbell son has recently returned from university and is looking for his wife!
The hall burned down in flames, but it was obvious that she would agree, although not at all because of the handsome David, who was a playmate of children so many years ago. She once fell in love with him, but that was long ago. Now she wouldn't even recognize him, and he probably didn't remember her either.
- This time I will stay, grandma - she whispered, giving a hug. - Maybe there is something to do here for me?
Greta made up her mind, inviting everyone to the garden for tea.
- In the confectionery they are looking for someone to help - she finally remembered. - I know the owner well. You will certainly like her.
She preferred working in a confectionery than in the Institute, whose director was Jasper Withell.
- I can't wait to meet her - she sighed under her nose.
- You sit down, I'll pass the cider, but first I'll show Amada the room - she grabbed her granddaughter under her shoulder and dragged her upstairs on the crackling stairs.
The room was small, but very cozy, and a large window overlooked grandma's beautiful garden. The brunette put the bag on the table when unexpectedly Greta spoke.
- Who's chasing you, baby, that you're running away in such a hurry?
She did not manage to surprise herself because the answer left her mouth:
- A beast that has no heart to love.
- In that case, stay here as long as you want, sweetheart - grandmother smiled good and stroke the girl on the cheek. - No beast has a chance with such a cunning old lady.
- Thank you," whispered Hale, unable to believe that Greta decoded it so quickly.
Until late evening they sat in the garden at the back of the house, sipping grandma's excellent tinctures and enjoying the time together. When late evening came, everyone went to bed, although Amanda could not sleep for a long time, ignoring hundreds of messages from Alpha, Colin and Dagmara.
She only hoped that the last two were all right.
It was noon when they realized that Amanda Hale had decided to oppose the will of her Lord and disappear.
- I don't understand how you could let that fucking bitch get away! - Withell had already lost control of himself a long time ago and now he was pressing on the wall of his brother, who was slowly losing his breath. - I told you to set limits, so why didn't you listen to me?!
Trein, the bruises on his face, tried to say something in his defence, but an angry alpha thwarted it every time.
- How did she escape when the borders were set? - He finally managed to suffocate when Jasper loosened his grip a little. - The Delta couldn't see anyone, and yet she couldn't melt in the air!
- I don't care," Withell drained out, throwing it aside. - You gotta fucking find her or I'll kill you.
The boy stared in disbelief at his leader, whose eyes were completely absorbed by the deep and impenetrable black. He knew that now he would not hesitate to do anything. Even before the whole herd was murdered, if that would bring Hale back. How much the werewolf wouldn't deny himself, the truth was that he had long since been bonded and was ready for anything if his partner would be with him again.
- This fucking vampire says he doesn't have a girlfriend - he was growling in anger. - You send the best trackers there and let them check it carefully! If he lied to me, I will burn down his entire palace... and his fucking family in it.
- Maybe we should interrogate this friend of hers? Before they ran away, they were talking to each other for a while - Trein suggested, which the alpha was reluctant to accept, because he had huge doubts that the girl was useful for anything.
Amanda wouldn't be stupid enough to tell her plans to her loved ones, whom she wanted to protect from death.
And although Withell would have been very happy to get rid of his dressing gown and his sister once and for all, he could not start administering justice with a free hand, because Vanessa was the rightful "heiress" of a higher position and the pack could rebel against him.
If he had done sisterhood, the wolves would have taken advantage of the situation and separated him from himself, allowing Trein to take over, and he could not allow it.
- Bring her to me - he growled and left his brother in peace, hiding behind the door to a private office.
He was so fierce that if he could, he would have blown fire.
Everywhere he saw her face and grey-blue eyes staring at him with hatred. Even when he was closing his eyelids, this picture did not leave him. He felt as if Hale was haunting him out of vengeance, forcing her to fulfill her destiny. If he could have changed it, it would never have happened, but he had no influence on what the gods decided.
He sat behind a desk, resting his hands against a dark tabletop and waited patiently for Dagmara to show up and illuminate his dark way with the answers he needed more than air at the moment.
- I don't know anything! Let me go, you mongrel! - he heard the cries of the cloakroom before she even crossed the office threshold.
- Calm down! - Trein was annoyed by Trein, shampooing with a stubborn robe that tried to hit him blindly.
Together they appeared inside, although the werewolf entered with the dignity of a prince, and the girl was pushed there not very gently.
- Where is Amanda Hale? - He asked Withell with stoic calmness, completely not resembling himself a moment ago. - You spoke to her last, so you need to know something.
- Yes, I talked to her - she murmured, tearing her arm out of the embrace of a younger werewolf and rubbing the painful spot. - Imagine that she did not tell me her plans!
- What about? - Jasper picked up quickly, feeling the first clue.
- She said she would stay here to save the herd - she sighed - and asked me to think about Christian Hopkins' case.
Alfa got up and went around the desk, leaning over the terrified hybrid.
- Are you sure you have nothing more interesting to say to us? - saying that, he didn't take his predatory gaze off it.
She did not answer immediately, frowning her eyebrows as if she was wondering about something.
- No," she finally said. - To be honest, I was convinced that she really wanted to stay here.
He bowed his head with understanding and told his brother to let go of his victim. He sensed that she wasn't lying, even though she might have been hiding something, but nothing seemed to indicate it. Life was too valuable for her to risk for others.
- Make Vanessa come here,
" he purr. - Maybe she will know something.
- Maybe it would be better if you went down to it - a shy wolf suggested. - He sits on the terrace and looks two hours ahead. I would rather not upset her.
Alpha turned over with his eyes. He didn't have the time or the desire to do some female fantasies.
- Okay, he nodded. - Make sure no one bothers us.
He ran quickly downstairs, walking through the corridor and dining room with an energetic step.
Vanessa was actually sitting on the terrace and seemed to admire the surrounding views, but Jasper knew this look too well. He sat across from her, with no intention of asking for what he deserved.
- Where is she? - He threw a dime, but the woman didn't even look at him.
- I don't know - she moved her shoulders. - She did not ask me for help, which I would gladly offer.
- Don't lie to me - he growled, slowly losing patience. - You found a lead.
Keyligh took a distrustful look at him, but remained silent.
- Okay, we'll talk differently - at this point she already knew she lost - either you tell me what you know, or your beloved niece will rot in my dungeons at level C. So what will it be like?
She sighed out loud, hating it even more than before, if at all.
- Gina Verber - she was wiped out, but he understood her without any mistakes.
He took out his phone from his jeans pocket and dialed the number to his favorite bet.
- Dante, bring me Gina Verber here - he ordered the leader of the herd to speak. - She doesn't have to be in one piece so that she can speak.
Vanessa held back the air, bending her face in a grimace of disgust. She could not believe that the man she shared her father with was such a monster.
- Would you like to add something? - Withell pissed her off, hiding her cell phone back in her pocket. - If not, he kept staring into the forest. There's nothing else you can do, because I've decided that you and this annoying hybrid will have fun here for longer.
