  - I love you, Amando Hale - he surprised her with this confession so much that she forgot her tongue in her mouth for a moment. - I have always loved you. Ever since I saw you for the first time on a school trip in this castle, I knew I would never forget you again.

Only now did she realize that there was something familiar within these walls. She was in Scotland many times, but only once she visited Dunrobin Castle - an amazing building modelled on French Loire castles and so different from typical Scottish fortresses.

  - Impossible, after all, that was a good ten years ago! - She shouted, shaking her head with disapproval. - I can't believe it.

  - You don't want to believe it, Amanda," he sighed, giving her a moment to absorb this information. - All these years I have kept my eyes on you.

  - So how did Jasper get me? - She snorted, but before she could get away agitated, he grabbed her in the waist and held her with him.

  - I'm sorry that this case took such a turn - he whispered straight into her ear, gently biting his petal, to which the brunette blew up agitated. - I hope that one day you will forgive me, and if not, the next centuries will be crowned with my suffering.

His martyr's tone amused her to such an extent that she couldn't resist and laughed loudly, pushing him away slightly.

  - You are impossible! - She screamed cheerfully, throwing a pillow at him to express her frustration.

When she saw his face, she was serious, immediately stop laughing.

  - I can't tell you what you want to hear - she purrred, immediately guessing what's bothering him - but I can promise you that when this is all over, I will tell you my feelings sincerely.

He closed his eyes, and his face was relieved. However, this did not stop him from immediately ordering Amanda to go back to bed and leave her with overprotective vampires who told her about the castle, its extraordinary history, and even read books brought from the library and sang Scottish songs, not allowing her to be bored even for a moment, and above all to be tormented by a nightmare in the vague form of Withell.

She knew that it was all Colin's overprotective work.

He did not even have to go inside to know that she was not there.

Anyway, the whole town was surrounded by vampires, who were clenching their fists in their pockets. He wasn't stupid enough to get into fights with powerful and old vampire families, who were just waiting for that. They would have willingly and without much effort swept him off the face of the earth, which he was perfectly aware of. It had to be played out differently, and above all on their principles.

  - We're going back - he purrred to Dante, not even looking at the werewolf, who also looked around anxiously.

  - Do you want to go back to Los Angeles without a loophole? - He made sure of Silveres, because a sudden change in alpha behavior surprised him, but the situation forced them to make unusual solutions.

  - You understood well - Withell growled, getting into the car and starting the engine. - There is nothing for us here, too young and not many of us. However, I do not intend to leave it that way. Hale will taste my vengeance with all my senses, just let me get the hybrid and deprive it of its head body.

Beta looked at him, but showed no shadow of fear. He almost shed blood in his life, so it did not make a special impression on him anymore, and he would gladly get rid of the hybrids himself. He was afraid, however, that they would meet unexpected resistance on their way, because Jasper was so busy dealing with his own failure that he did not notice his brother's love problems.

Trein Withell could have pretended that nothing was happening and he didn't find his partner, but Dagmar was carrying a characteristic smell which meant that she found her destiny, which she probably didn't know about. She was only a man with supernatural powers, but she did not feel the power of the bond. Instead, Trein felt her, and he tried to get rid of her too intensively and at all costs.

  - What are you going to do, ladies? - The werewolf opened the window so that the cool air would sober up his tired mind a little and allow a rational view of the situation.

When he couldn't concentrate enough on something, he transformed himself and fled to the forest, where he trained for as long as he thought he had cleared his thoughts of everything that was unnecessary. But now he could not afford it.

  - I intend to kill anyone who stood in my way to strengthen my position. I will start with a hybrid and send its head wrapped in cardboard to Hale. She must have missed her friend - he growled, speeding up so that Dante's heart went down to his throat, although he was a fan of fast driving without fastening his seat belt.

But this time it was different. Alpha fell into a white fury and was ready to destroy everything, including himself, if he could in any way play back his girlfriend. In this case, he was deadly dangerous and the only person who, apart from Silvers, had his head on his back had to be warned.

Jasper, fully focused on the road, did not notice how his beta taped out a few words on the flat screen of his phone and rushed to send a message.

Take the girl to a safe place. He wants to get rid of everyone he suspects of taking away his mate.

He put his cell phone back in his pocket and was relieved to see that Withell did not pay special attention to his behavior or was such a good actor that he only pretended not to see anything, but he was already laying out a plan in his head to get rid of everyone he considered traitors - and the list was endless.

  Chapter XVII

Dante had no idea how he survived this whole battle in the form of a crazy car ride, then a flight during which Jasper even left himself and changed right after he left the plane.

Alpha acted ruthlessly and Silveres was sure that if he detects treason - and in time he will - he is the first suspect to be shot. He would be a fool if he wasn't afraid, but he promised loyalty not only to the Alpha, but above all to the warlord. Admittedly, when Withell brought the linen, everyone was relieved - finally they found a mother who could take care of them. And while humanity wasn't an obstacle for anyone with a wadding, for Jasper it was a factor that plunged the girl and assigned her to one of the subcategories. The leader's behaviour towards the brunette affected everyone, especially right after the scent transfer ritual, when she officially became part of the herd.

Amanda suffered from torture, used by Trein and remaining far behind her destiny. She didn't fraternize with wolves, because she didn't have access to them, and the alpha alienated her enough and the only thing she saw in the variables were heartless monsters, incapable of any human feelings.

Dante listened to Withell, because he knew that he wouldn't let the barrel hurt, and that the girl should serve her punishment for her stubbornness and learn to respect her partner, including coming to terms with her fate. However, when they murdered Gina Verber, who in cold blood helped Amanda escape, although she knew the rules and could guess what would happen to her, Silveres began to be afraid. So far, he thought Jasper was a good leader of the herd, but destiny got him confused and that changed by a hundred and eighty degrees.

We are close to home, Dante. Get dressed and bring the girl to the interrogation cell. Hurry up.

  Jasper recommended him, barking nervously.

  Of course, alfo.

The first one to run into the beta and immediately disappeared upstairs in his suite, where he put in the last thing and the last thing he managed to register before the angry Withell showed up, was wasted Vanessa drinking whiskey on the veranda.

  - Where the hell is she?! - he roared so loudly the alpha that the house almost shook its foundations.

Dante looked at him, pretending to be surprised.

  - It is impossible for her to run away - he tried to calm her friend down. - The area was too well guarded.

  - You said the same thing when my mother gave her leg - Withell growled and his eyes took on a darker color.

Silveres did not respond by turning around and following Vanessa, who was exactly where he last saw her.

The woman seemed to be reconciled with her fate, as if she realized that she had little time left. Before the Alpha appeared with them, she looked at the werewolf in such a way that it would be remembered for the rest of her life.

Do not drink from crystal glasses.

He looked at her with an incomprehensible eye, but immediately took on a dangerous expression on his face, seeing that Jasper emerges from behind a glass door.

  - I'm pissed off enough to tear you to shreds," he said in a tone from which the fury has completely disappeared and the icy peace was beating for a change, "but before I do, you tell me where you hid it.

Keyligh sighed, reaching for the bottle and pouring herself a solid portion of the drink. She did not seem drunk, although the vessel was almost empty.

  - I will never tell you this - she muttered, taking a solid sip of amber liquid - it is enough that your mother took everything from us. I won't let you finish her work.

Withell lifted his eyebrows slightly, which clearly showed that he had no idea what the woman was talking to him about.

  - What the fuck are you talking about? Did your brain get eaten out of that alcohol? - he clenched his hand on her shoulder, almost crushing her shoulder.

  - We came here to administer justice, not to interfere in the destiny of the wolves - she started quietly, writhing in pain, but did not write a word. - Hopkins rotted in the dungeon, but Dagmara listened to Amanda's latest advice and decided to talk to him. Surely you have no idea what he told us?

Withell sighed tired of these games and squinted his eyes.

  - Talk to me before I break your spine - he hissed, and she smiled under your nose in a slightly crazy way.

  - He said that he was forced to do everything by your mother! Yours and Trein's - she laughed sinisterly, as if she couldn't believe she hadn't figured it out before. - That bitch was jealous that Gregory paid more attention to the granddaughter of the firstborn than to herself. Besides, she was afraid that if relations between werewolves and vampires got better, Esther would take her place. It is hard to believe that jealousy can go so deep.

She breathed deeply, as if she had got rid of the great weight, throwing it away and drinking the contents of the glass.

Jasper stared at her with an unmistakable expression on his face and after a long time of silence, he disappeared for a while at home to bring two more dishes. Both of them were from his favorite crystalware. He spilled the rest of the bottle evenly and slipped the crystal to Dante's nose, immediately swinging his whiskey ration.

Silveres looked at Vanessa surreptitiously, but her face did not even shake, betraying absolutely no emotions. Whatever she did, it was crazy and planned in detail by her in advance. The wolves had a perfect smell, so she had to put a lot of effort into making sure that Withell wouldn't know what she was up to.

  - She forgave him - she finished her story. - He cried when she talked to him and his tears were sincere. Besides, he let her look into his head. Dagmara has the ability to recall memories, even those hidden deep in the depths of our subconscious. She knew that he told the truth.

  - Are you saying that he felt a debt of gratitude to her and helped her escape? - He was whirring alpha, stuck in a woman's annoying gaze.

She moved only her shoulders, bored with his constant agitation.

  - As far as I know, Hopkins is still stuck in the dungeon - she sighed, looking somewhere in front of her. - Whatever you wanted to do with my niece, you can't do it. It's certainly far away, with your brother.

It happened so quickly that Dante did not even manage to react.

A loud roar of rage broke out of Withell's throat and after a while the glass from which he had previously drank alcohol was stuck straight in the woman's heart. There was no shock on the wolf's face, and when her eyes slowly dimmed, Silveres was convinced that there was a malicious smile lurking in the corners of her mouth.

  - Take her away and burn the corpse - Jasper drained it out, going back home.

The werewolf took Vanessa quite gently on his hands and went away to the forest, listening to her heart beating more and more quietly. She died in his arms and so he remembered her forever. Slightly blushed, with curls scattered around his head and that winning smile lurking somewhere in the corners of his mouth.

  - I don't know what you did, Vanessa, but I hope you did it," he whispered, breaking through the thicker and thicker bushes until he reached a familiar clearing. - You will rest next to your parents, although there is so much I can do for you.

He opened a shed hidden away and pulled out a spade from there, with which he persistently dug a grave worthy of the rightful heiress of the herd leader until the end of the day.

He did not know what he actually felt. He could not call it that, but for the first time in years he was probably just sad. Although he never clung to Withell's older siblings, he felt a kind of respect for him. Gregory Keyligh was a good alpha who loved and cared for his flock and when Freya was still alive - his rightful destiny - they were a perfect family. However, the wolf died after a long illness that the wolf genes couldn't cure, and the alpha never accepted her passing, although soon afterwards the elders forced him to marry the alpha of a different herd, with which they were in long conflict.

Tatiana was a terrible luna, which not only the children but also their parents were afraid of. After Jasper was born she softened a little, but only for her own son. She must have loved the treachery just as much, although it was always the older son who had her first priority - after all, he was to become an alpha once and it was up to him to decide what would happen to his mother.

He had no idea how Vanessa and Dagmara found out that Tatiana was guilty of a disgusting crime on the half-baby, but he was glad that after so many years, someone had explored the secret of this witch. Hopkins concealed the fact that she also poisoned Gregory because she wanted to get rid of him when he got depressed after losing his beloved son, or maybe Dagmar found out anyway by looking through his memories, but she kept it to herself.

Whatever the course of events, Vanessa was now with those she lost years ago and probably for the first time in a long time she was happy.

  - See you soon - he put up a large mound, putting the shovel back into the shed.

In silence, he recited his own prayer before he decided to return to the main house, confident that he was only minutes away from sharing the fate of the wolves.

However, he definitely did not expect what he found there.

Dante looked in disbelief at the dead bodies lying across the corridor and one of them undoubtedly belonged to Jasper Withell.

  - You greased all the crystals with poison - he whispered a little with horror and a little with appreciation from Silveres.

He knelt down on his dead friend and put his hand on his still warm cheek.

  - I loved you like a brother, but too many have already died under your rule - he looked at the alpha for a while before leaning over the other body.

Christian Hopkins had his heart ripped out, so Withell must have thoughtlessly deprived him of a priceless organ in his next rage attack. Anyway, who knows, maybe the poison got him confused before he raised his hand to an old werewolf and took his life.

The wolves must have felt that something bad had happened, because more and more of them started to emerge from the forest. Dante straightened out and before he went out in front of the house to explain the new situation to the herd, he took all the crystal dishes from the kitchen into the trash. Enough of life was already consumed by the recent events.

  - Alpha is dead," he said briefly, "but no one has shed a single tear for this sad news. - According to the law, Trein Withell became the new Alpha.

Werewolves were reluctant to bounce their heads off, leaving Silvers alone with his problem of two bodies rotting at home. They were certainly afraid of Brother Jasper, because they suspected he would be equally cruel and self-centered. Dante thought so too, until he saw with his own eyes that love made Trein look like an adopti
ve father. The boy became responsible and caring, and his bitterness and desire for power were suppressed. For the pack, it was a hope to build a strong herd, because when the foundation is good, the house will not be shaken by anything.

  - Wait! - He shouted to the wolves walking away into the forest. - Maybe Jasper wasn't a good alpha, but he should be respectfully bid farewell. Keep this in mind.

Variables were in agreement, agreeing to the request of Beta, who reluctantly came back inside and took care of his old friends.

  [At the same time]

Amanda lay curled up on the cool floor and tried to control the tremor of her whole body as well as the strong pain radiating from somewhere around her stomach. Her intestines burned her, but it was a different kind of fire from the one that accompanied her when she was bitten by Withell and transformed.

She wanted to scream, but her voice got stuck in her throat and her lips got chapped, as if she hadn't drunk anything for a month. She didn't cry, but she was on the verge of endurance, so she expected it to break at any time.

  - Amanda! - The king was with her in a second, alarmed by the shouts of the nervous nurses. - Try to calm your breath.

She tried, but it wasn't easy at all, given that she had the impression that someone put a pile of bricks on her chest.

  - Call the doctors! - Deveth gently pulled her hair out of her face, for which she was really grateful.

The vampires rushed out in a hurry to appear again, after infinitely long seconds, accompanied by trained scientists who were hobbyists in medicine. At least Hale had this impression, because she considered everyone to be miracle workers, hearing about their exploits.

  - What's happening, Ursus? - Colin knelt down so that the brunette's head rests safely on his knees.

Ursus was one of the age-old vampires who entertained the world for so long that they started to help people out of boredom, and over time it turned into a passion and purpose of eternal existence. His knowledge was extremely valuable and versatile, and no one could match his experience, although of course there were equally many good doctors. The ruler trusted him and believed that he knew the answers to all questions, which was not necessarily true, but Ursus was extremely flattered.
