Werewolf Destiny Page 2
- I understand - Hale smiled awkwardly and stood up, putting out the lamp at her workstation. - Tomorrow I will continue, okay?
She didn't want to hide everything she had been cleaning up with such passion for the last few hours. She was afraid that the papers would get mixed up again and she would have to start from the beginning, and without that it was a Sisyphean job.
- No problem - Verber collected her things and headed for the staircase.
They climbed upstairs and went through a quiet library, where only Arthur was left from the wounded crew, typing something greedy into the computer.
- I'll just leave the keys to the porter - Gina quickly gave a bundle to a balding old man with a summatted moustache and signed the substituted letter. - That is all, we can go.
She grabbed the girl by the arm and pulled to the door, but someone replaced them at the last minute.
- Gina Verber - the sharp sound of the voice froze the blood in wolf's veins. - I could have expected it.
Jasper's eyes were throbbing with lightning, but despite this, he still had the appearance of calm. He did not want to scare Amanda.
- We're done for today, Mr Withell - she pissed on him - can we help you with something else?
Alpha turned his eyes upside down, looking with interest at her destiny, who did everything she could not to look at him. He was annoyed by this behavior, but soon Amanda will understand her duty and will not even dare to leave her head in his presence.
So again, he focused his attention on the older woman.
- You don't have to bother - he smiles spitefully, easily catching in her mind what she was planning to do - you don't live in Miss Hale's district anyway.
- But that's where I'm going," Gina fucks, "so I'm happy to take her with me.
- This will not be necessary - Jasper sent her a threatening look - Miss Hale has not finished her work yet. Now she will come with me. Tomorrow you will take her away.
It was an order, because the hair on Verber's neck came off in this characteristic way - out of fear.
She gave Amanda a compassionate look, but she did not seem terrified by the vision of talking to her superior. She was probably so tired that she didn't care. She just wanted to finish the day and come back home, where yesterday's dinner, a warm bed and a good book were waiting for her.
- Until tomorrow, Amanda - she said goodbye quietly to her coworker, but she didn't hear it, because Withell was already pulling her upstairs a little bit gently. - I hope you'll get out of it all.
Chapter III
She sat rigidly on a chair and tried to stay calm, which was rather average.
Blue eyes burned her alive, even if she looked into them.
- Are you afraid? - He asked supposedly from Withell's unwillingness, but he really wanted answers.
He wanted to hear again the soft voice that caressed not only his ears but also his soul.
Amanda was confused by this question and raised her eyebrows a little, but she kept staring at the floor.
- Did I do something wrong? - She did not remember to skip any of Gina's instructions, but perhaps Mr. Hopkins had other objections to her work.
From the beginning, he seemed dissatisfied with her presence at the Institute, although he called her himself and invited her to an interview, claiming that she was the ideal candidate for this vacancy.
Jasper smiled predatory. In Hale's tone he heard fear, and nothing drove him like a scared partner.
- It will turn out - she did not understand the allusion, but still did not look at it.
It was as if she felt that this could outweigh the boy's self-control.
- Sorry if I let you down - the werewolf clamped his hands on dark wood, sticking his fingers into the top of an old desk.
He did not expect that it would cost him so much to stay away from a mysterious stranger who wrapped him around his finger with one look.
- It's time for me - he suddenly got up and ran to the door, leaving the stupefied Amanda alone in the office.
He could not afford to be weak, not in her company. He is the future ruler and no woman will take it away from him.
Podeszła She was curious about the furniture and leaned over the yellowed sheets of paper, which looked much older than her.
- Rules of admission of new members to the herd - she read the title at the top of the page and smiled amused.
Apparently, the Institute's employees were not only boring librarians but also wolf lovers. It wouldn't have been possible to suspect Mr. Hopkins, who reminded himself a little of these wild animals.
She has coded in her memory that she should ask Gina about everything if she finds her tomorrow at work. Eventually, she came across a number of scientific interviews in the archives, which corresponded to this topic, but she did not want to go into them. Now she was sure she should do it if she wanted to fit in with this educated crowd.
Maybe then Jasper Withell himself will change his mind about her, and even take a gracious look at her.
- Miss Hale? - unexpectedly, Arthur Cullen appeared in the open door, who looked tired and at the same time happy to see her. - I remember well?
- Yes - surprised she turned her eyes away from the cards - did something happen?
- Good that I found you! You should come with me. Right away. To the library! - He was throwing himself out chaotically, gesticulating with his hands.
- Okay, but why? - She asked when they rushed through the corridors and stairs.
Arthur did not answer or stop.
It was only when they found themselves in the library that he locked the door behind them, turning the key in the lock twice, and breathed a sigh of relief, as if all the confusion had affected not only his condition but also his mental health.
- It was probably difficult for you to get used to the idea that you came here by accident," he said, deliberately leading the conversation to the tracks he was interested in.
Amanda thought about herself, not really knowing what the man was aiming for.
- Well, it was actually a bit weird," she admitted with a slacker, because she was afraid that there was some incredible story behind it, which she would rather not know.
- I will help you to dispel any doubts - the voice was almost whispered down - you have been given up. Yes, you understood. You were given back to a dangerous criminal and you better stay away from him.
Hale blinked as if Cullen's words had not reached her.
- I'm sorry, but I don't think I fully understand...
Actually, Arthur's chatterbox did not understand anything at all, and she could only agree with one thing. To accept her to work here was indeed too incredible for her to call it an accident or a simple coincidence.
- Jasper Withell is not just the director of the Institute, and Christian Hopkins is not just his deputy," continued unassisted Cullen. - Instead, you are only here to fill a gap in their evil plan.
She was drinking hot tea trying to recover from the revelations that Dr. Cullen gave her.
She still thought it was impossible, and all irrational events can somehow be explained logically. She would never even suspect that werewolves could really exist. It was a dream and a fairy tale she had heard in her childhood from her older friends, read into any story that had anything to do with wolves. However, there was something that did not give her peace of mind and kept coming back, although she was determined to forget.
Mate. It was one word that kept her awake.
She knew perfectly well what it meant. She had heard it before and all her life she wanted this amazing mate to meet her too. But did she have any idea what she was actually asking for?
- What are you doing? In love or what? - Dagmara put a plate of biscuits on the table, which she took out of the oven just a m
oment ago.
Amanda loved her like a sister and knew her since high school, but she hesitated to share what was in her heart with her friend.
- Not exactly - she finally suffocated - I am after my first day at a new job and I don't know what I should think about it all.
- So bad? - The roommate sat next door on a chair and took one steaming cookie in her hand.
- It's not that it's bad - she started explaining to Amanda, but too late she realized that she was only sinking.
- An old and ugly boss who is horny about you? - Meanwhile, Dagmara was slipping up, smiling amused by her own bad joke.
On the contrary, Hale thought, but she wouldn't admit it aloud in life.
The fact that Jasper Withell liked women was clear as the sun, and she was no exception. However, it did not change the fact that the guy scared her and she would not go on a date with him voluntarily in her life, not to mention some more bold steps.
- Mr. Hopkins is a demanding supervisor, but he is an elderly man and you have to be forgiving him - she purrred, wanting to keep the truth about Jasper's existence to herself.
The less black-haired she knows, the better for her.
- Are you trying to convince me or yourself? - The ironic side of a colleague was launched and she wasn't going to let go until she learned all the details about Amanda's bad mood.
- You know... - she started, but at the same time, there was a knock on the door.
Both girls looked at each other astonished, not remembering to invite anyone at all. Rather, they belonged to people who treated their modest apartment as a small kingdom and no one crossed the threshold of this place if they did not invite anyone at all without tact and shame (and such situations also happened).
- I'll open it," proposed Dagmara and unhurriedly went to the microscopic corridor.
There was no visionary in the door, so the girl, wanting to avoid it, had to open it, which she was also reluctant to do. A moment later, the silence of the lazy afternoon was interrupted by a suffocated cry, and Dagmara slipped to the ground like a sack of potatoes.
- Dag?! - Worried about Hale, she ran out of the kitchen as soon as possible, but soon found out for herself that the visionary is a very useful thing and should have thought long ago about making up for it.

She was awakened by a dull headache and the dizziness associated with it, or at least she dared to think so.
She was lying on her bed, which was easy for her to see when looking at her closest surroundings from under half-closed eyelids, and there was a twilight around, illuminated only by the night lights of the city.
The only problem she saw in all this confusion was that it wasn't her bed, and her friend was lost.
- It's probably a joke - she whispered sleepily, trying to get up on her elbow, but the dizziness intensified, so she quickly returned to her previous position.
The room was quite spacious, which made the girl afraid.
She would rather lie in a tight cell under the stairs and think that Harry Potter was experiencing the same thing as she did before he left his disliked home and discovered the magic of Hogwarts. This would give some hope for a better tomorrow or at least let her live in the world of her beloved hero.
On the other hand, the luxurious rooms were rather associated with mental perverts, who kidnapped random women from the street and kept them at home, treating them like erotic toys. The story always ended the same way - when the toy got bored of its owner or was no longer usable, it ended its life in the forest very deep underground, possibly in the icy depths of a random lake.
Both versions were equally terrifying.
She tried to get up again and this time she succeeded, although with great difficulty. She sat on the bed and was sure she wouldn't get any more. She could not believe that chloroform had caused such havoc in her body.
She touched her shoulder with her hand, feeling a disturbing burning sensation there and only after a while she realized that she had never had any scar there, and now she clearly feels the thickening. Once again she drove her fingers after an unusual discovery, this time slightly down.
- Bite - she whispered, recognizing a characteristic trace. - But Cullen did not lie, and I thought he was crazy.
Indeed, the doctor did not lie, but he did not know even half of what Professor Hopkins knew.
Because Christian, in the place of a colleague, would have warned the girl about the effects of the bite, but it was also difficult to hold a grudge against Arthur for not doing so. He simply had no idea that the bite was usually dying within 24 hours, unless he gave in to the will of his new master.
And the new master of Amanda Hale was Jasper Withell.
Chapter IV
- It's not really happening - she moaned, again falling on the bed, which now seemed to her with invisible handcuffs, holding her too close to danger.
She wanted to run away, even though this thought was not quite yet entirely alive in her. The anxiety was born slowly, weakened by strong sedatives and the consequences of the bite, about which she obviously had no idea.
Even if she managed to read all the materials from the library's archives, she would still find out nothing more than that werewolves are not literary fiction, and a pack is not only a herd of wild animals living in the forest.
She tried again because she knew she was trapped and had to free herself if she wanted to survive, but none of her limbs wanted to cooperate.
- Gina - she whispered in a fever, because it was the only name she could remember.
Silent steps relieved the growing pain, although the sound itself gave the girl the shivers. She had no idea how, but she knew that they were owned by Jasper. What is more, she felt that he came because he wanted to help her.
- Amando - he must have burned the forehead of the destined one with his hand, who closed her eyes with relief.
It didn't hurt so much with him, as if the presence of the boy alone would give her strength. She didn't believe that it was possible, but she didn't believe in many other things that happened.
- Jasper - she did not want to say it, but the word magically left her mouth.
What else would she say? Some part of her, who temporarily took control, wanted with all her might to stay. Meanwhile, a very deep buried sense shouted out that under no circumstances should she trust him, and best kept her away.
Chciała słuchać tego drugiego, ale nie była przyzwyczajona do cierpienia. Nigdy wcześniej nic nie bolało równie mocno, a ona sobie z tym nie radziła. Zresztą trudno się dziwić, bo to, co przeżywała było nie do opisania i nawet Jasper (świadomie i z Premeditatedly blocking access to its sensations) never before and never later experienced anything like it.
- You are strong - he assured only, and in his voice a steel note sounded.
He could not have imagined that his intended partner could turn out to be weaker than he assumed in advance. She was his and everything that belonged to him was unique, beautiful and strong. He would have said straightforwardly that perfect.
- I can't do it - Hale was weakening and didn't intend to hide it, although she felt her master's growing anger. - Help me, please.
Withell looked at her with disgust. How could she give up so easily? He decided to kidnap her quicker, because he heard that he wasn't the only one who had the snoring for this special girl, and she just wasn't worth all the trouble in the world.
He felt no compassion when looking at the body bending in spasms of agony. Amanda was dying before his eyes, and he didn't care a bit about it.
- If you give up, it means that you have never been alpha worthy," he muttered, moving away from bed. - It is pathetic that people are such fragile beings. I am not even going to pretend, Hale, that I don't care about your fate at all. I have never been and will never depend on anyone. See you in the morning, alleged mate... or not, because we are not sure you will survive until then.
He left without turning once for himself.
At that time Amanda understood that all magical tales about the exceptional love of their destined lovers are lies, invented for the needs of trivial youth literature.
Maybe she would cry if she could, or maybe she would give up if she did not have a fighting spirit. However, she decided to fight, against everything she had suffered. She wanted to live, if only to wipe the nose of that conceited man.
She closed her eyes, imagining that all this never happened. This was the easiest way.
Słuchała go, a przynajmniej się she tried. He had a nice voice that made her feel better from his sound. When it was good enough for her to start thinking consciously - he disappeared. She wanted to believe that in the future she would know who had taken care of her and pay off the debt she had unknowingly contracted with him.
She was lying finished on a bed, which she hated with all her heart. She was sweaty, her long hair was sticking to the welded body, her cheeks were red, her lips were bitten to blood and her arms, legs and belly were bruised with purple bruises of unknown origin.
In spite of everything she lived, which she owed mainly to her mysterious guardian. She doubted that it was any of the pack, but she wasn't sure yet. Only later it turned out that not only was he not from Jasper's pack, but he was not a wolf at all.
Alpha did not arrive until late in the afternoon the next day, casting his other half in an intriguing gaze with a little pride lurking in it.
Finally, this human girl managed to make the transition. Not into a wolf, of course, because with that you had to be born in the genes and no bite could change that.
Amanda Hale officially became part of the herd and her body took over the scent of Jasper making her smell like a wolf, exactly like him.
